Staying in shape while prepping the kids to go back to school…easy right?
The summer season is almost over and it’s time to prepare the kids to go back to school. But you still want to have time for yourself to get and stay in shape.
Here are some practical tips you can use to jumpstart your wellness routine while handling your busy life with your mom, wife and work duties.
Sleep Smart
Sleep, is sleep right?
We can sometimes confuse when studies say we should sleep more, but scientifically we should sleep smart. Sleeping smarter helps one to have more focus, manage stress better, improves energy, and lose weight.
Shawn Stevenson is the creator of The Model Health Show and the bestselling author of his book, Sleep Smarter, where he shares 21 tips for how to sleep smarter.
Some of the tips include:
– Don’t use the computer, cell phone or tv within 30 mins of going to sleep.
– If your workout is in the evening, end your workout before 4 hours the time you usually go to sleep.
-Try to sleep in cooler temperatures at around 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Above 75 or below 54 is not ideal for efficient sleep for most.
Wake Up Early
I know I just told you to sleep smarter and now I am telling you to wake up early. This is actually a bonus tip from Shawn’s book. Having your workout earlier in the morning has huge positive benefits on one’s sleep quality. We will talk about that more in a future post.
Wake up earlier than the rest of your family to have a quick 10-15 min workout. We already wake up early to get everyone else up, but waking up just 10 mins earlier will add more activity to your daily routine. Plus, you may make so much noise working out at home, that the rest of the family may wake up as well. That’s a double win!
When the kids are at play…you can play too!
When you take the kids to after school practice or the park, it is encouraged to walk/jog instead of sitting on the sidelines, bench or in your car. Working in that additional activity is a sneaky and efficient way to burn more calories, plus your children will see that you are being active and that will leave a positive impact on them to stay active into adulthood. Which is another important point we will talk about in a future post.
So, it is possible to still stay in shape while the kids go back to school. Try some of these tips and let us know how they work out.
